Kehua’s BCS1250K-C-HUD PCS Powers Vietnam’s First Large-Scale BESS Deployment in Hanoi

17 Jul 2026

Kehua Digital Energy has successfully supplied its BCS1250K-C-HUD series power conversion systems (PCS) for a landmark 50 MW/100 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Hanoi, Vietnam. The five BESS units, featuring battery systems supplied by VinEnergo and integrated by ACIT, were deployed across five 110 kV substations for EVN Hanoi, the project owner. This project marks the first large-scale energy storage application connected to Hanoi’s power grid, representing a significant milestone in the development of Vietnam’s energy storage infrastructure.

The five 10MW/20MWh BESS units are installed across Bac Thang Long, Quang Minh, Sai Dong 2, Phung Xá, and Thanh Oai 110kV substations. After the other four units had been commissioned, the final system at Bac Thang Long was successfully energized on 5 July 2026. Equipped with Kehua's BCS1250K-C-HUD PCS, the systems are designed to store electricity during off-peak periods and discharge during peak load hours, providing frequency regulation and load management services that enhance the flexibility and reliability of Hanoi's grid.

PCS-Level Safety and Reliability

To reduce the risk of copper bar overheating, our BCS1250K-C-HUD PCS deployed in this project incorporates multi-faceted safety protection to ensure stable operation under demanding grid conditions. Its modular design also simplifies installation and maintenance, contributing to lower downtime and lifecycle costs.

Strengthening Grid Stability and Flexibility

The BESS deployment supports EVN Hanoi’s grid operations by storing electricity and discharging it during peak load periods, which contributes to load management and enhances the reliability of Hanoi’s power supply. As electricity demand in the capital continues to rise, particularly during hot weather, the systems provide a critical technical tool for maintaining secure and stable power delivery.

A Strategic Step Toward Smart Grid Development

Serving as a key foundation for EVN Hanoi, this pilot project enables the evaluation of energy storage system performance in real-world conditions. It aligns with Vietnam’s strategic direction for smart grid development, grid modernization, and the integration of renewable energy sources, while also demonstrating Kehua’s capability to deliver high-performance PCS technology for landmark energy storage projects in emerging markets.

Project Impact

  • Grid Connection: July 2026
  • Total Capacity: 50 MW/100 MWh (5 × 10 MW/20 MWh)
  • Pioneering Milestone: First large-scale BESS deployment on Hanoi's power grid
  • Enhanced Safety: Multi-faceted protection reduces the risk of copper bar overheating
  • Simplified O&M: Easy installation and maintenance lower life-cycle costs
