Kehua-Delivered India's Largest 180MW / 360MWh Standalone Energy Storage Project Successfully Grid-Connected

19 May 2026

Recently, India's first large-scale, grid-connected standalone energy storage project has been successfully commissioned, marking a significant milestone in the country's renewable energy development. Supplied by Kehua, a grid-forming expert with 38 years of experience in renewables, this project utilizes Kehuas advanced PCS to deliver reliable and efficient performance even under extreme environmental conditions, providing substantial value to the customer.

Notably, according to an official document released by the National Load Dispatch Centre (NLDC) and GRID-INDIA, Kehua is recognized as a leading manufacturer in the fields of PV and energy storage, particularly in grid-forming technology, showcasing its industry leadership. This acknowledgment highlights Kehua’s significant position in the Indian market and provides strong technical assurance for the success of this project.

With a total capacity of 180MW/360MWh, this project is the largest independent energy storage system in India that has finished commissioning. Kehua supplied 192 units of the latest 1.25 MW centralized Power Conversion Systems (PCS), utilizing high-efficiency IGBT modules and intelligent control algorithms. These systems are engineered to operate at full load in ambient temperatures up to 51°C, ensuring high reliability and long-term stability even in harsh desert-like environments. The IP65 protection rating guarantees excellent dust and water resistance, enabling continuous operation in challenging conditions.

In terms of system design, the PCS supports dual-machine DC parallel operation, achieving high reliability and operational flexibility, catering to dynamic load adjustments. The systems are equipped with advanced thermal management technologies, ensuring high availability during long-term operation. These technological advantages not only reduce operational costs but also significantly enhance overall system stability and safety, creating continuous economic value for the customer.

Furthermore, the project strictly complies with India's latest CEA (Central Electricity Authority) standards, supporting critical grid functions such as fast frequency regulation and voltage control. These capabilities empower the customer to meet future grid modernization and renewable integration needs, boosting overall grid resilience and operational efficiency.

With the large-scale integration of wind and solar energy, grid stability faces new challenges. In response, grid-forming energy storage technologies have emerged as a vital solution for enhancing grid resilience. Kehua's grid-forming PCS, backed by 38 years of technical expertise, has become a key support pillar for modern power grids. Utilizing swing equations and synchronous machine simulation algorithms, it operates independently of the existing grid to provide autonomous voltage regulation and frequency control, responding to grid disturbances within milliseconds. It quickly supplements virtual inertia and suppresses power fluctuations, significantly improving grid stability while also increasing customer benefits.

As a global grid-forming leader in energy storage solutions, Kehua leverages proprietary core technologies, extensive industry experience, and continuous innovation to deliver solutions that excel in extreme environmental conditions. This project exemplifies Kehua's commitment to helping customers maximize returns on investment while accelerating the global transition toward clean energy.

Looking forward, Kehua will continue to innovate and provide more valuable energy storage solutions, supporting customers in achieving sustainable development goals and shaping a greener, more resilient energy future.
